The first place that I went searched was Facebook. Derek's page has a privacy setting, so I was not able to see very many things. Under the "info" tab, the only information stated is that he is a male. The best information found included several photos. Three of his photos included images of book, which leads me to believe that he enjoys reading. I was hoping to be able to find something for Derek on Goodreads in order to see what kinds of literature he enjoys, but my search was unsuccessful.
There were two other Facebook photos that I saw that caused me to draw some conclusions. The first was one with a group of people that I assumed to be his family. It looks as though it was taken in the Salt Lake International Airport. He is wearing a suit and missionary name tag. It looks as though Derek served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon) and the photo was taken when his family picked him up at the airport. This photo was uploaded by Derek on December 18, 2012.
The last photo that told me something about Derek was one of his cover images. I remember him mentioning in class that he was a part of a fraternity, and I had forgotten until seeing this. Derek's Facebook page can be accessed HERE.
I next searched for Mr. Smart on LinkedIn. His profile can be found HERE.
In relation to his campus job, I found a newsletter online called The Image, which is for USU facilities employees. The issue was from December 2013. His name was listed among those that would soon be celebrating a birthday. From this I was able to learn that he was born on December 11th.
The other job that Derek has listed on his LinkedIn is for a place called Top Hat Video and DVD. He worked there as a shift supervisor from June 2008 to December 2010.
According to his LinkedIn, Derek has the following skills: Leadership, Event Planning, Teamwork, Customer Service, Microsoft Office, Interpersonal Communication, Social Media, and Critical Thinking. At the time of this post being written, he had been endorsed by three people in the area of leadership, two people in event planning, and one in team work.
Derek attended LDS Business School from 2009-2010, earning a Associate of Science degree in General Studies. He now attends Utah State University, pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication and Media Studies. He plans to graduate in 2015. As a student of USU, Derek has been a member of the Honor Society since January 2013.
While at Utah State, Derek has been a member of Sigma Phi Epilson. He currently serves on the Executive Board at USU, as the Vice President of Member Development. He has been serving in this position since 2013. He is responsible for the academic, interpersonal, physical, and social development of his chapter, which includes 40 members. He also directs coordinators for development programs. He creates and carries out plans for motivate members to earn a higher grade point average. According to his blog, he is in his early twenties. He likes to do things that are unexpected and against the status quo. He considers himself to be a student of art, thought, religion, and people.
Derek's Twitter account can be found HERE. He has had his account for a little over a year and has a total of 702 tweets. He appears to be very active on this social media platform. One of the things that he regularly retweets is from "F-R-I-E-N-D-S tweets". Through his tweets, I was not only able to understand his interest in the television show Friends, but also his love of Diet Pepsi.
Not only does Derek like Diet Pepsi, but he is also a fan of Diet Coke. At least, that is what can be surmised when viewing his photos on Instagram.

He has "Mayorship" for two locations, Crestview Apartments and Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity House. I do not have a Fourquare, so I am not sure what exactly that requires, however the feeling that I get from seeing his profile is that is probably very comfortable using it, and does so quite regularly.
His YouTube account can be accessed HERE. I could not see any videos that he posted, however his recently activity section was filled with videos that he has "liked". Most of the videos appeared to be songs and/or music videos. This led me to believe that he is very interested in music. When viewing the "About" section of his profile, I can see that he has subscribed to the following: Nicki Minaj, Kurt Hugo Schneider, Soul Pancake, Mormon Channel, Les Miserables Film, Paradise Fears, and Christophe Mae. He joined YouTube on March 25, 2009.
The information that I was able to gather about Derek led me to believe that he has a great knowledge of social media. If I was searching for an employee to work in the field of marketing and social media, I would consider Derek to be a prime candidate, based upon his experience and the frequency in which he posts and retweets. Derek seems like a fun, carefree person, so I think the things available online will easily help employers to feel if he will be a good fit with their organization.
